Commercial Assistant - Project Management & Sourcing

Department: Project Management & Sourcing

Location: Luton, Bedfordshire

Reports To: Senior Product and Sourcing Manager


To contribute to the continuous growth of the lighting business and support the Senior Product and Sourcing Manager in defining and implementing the commercial and purchasing strategy for the business incorporating associated activities, ensuring their alignment with the company’s business objectives. 

Primary Responsibilities: 

1.     Commercial

  • Support Senior Product and Sourcing Manager with the management of the company’s lighting offer and the commercial policies it enters with Key Account Customers. 
  • Support Senior Product and Sourcing Manager with the review, calculation, implementation, and communication of product pricing of new and existing products. 
  • Work closely with the business systems team and our customer base to ensure internal systems are updated in line with any price movements. 
  • Supporting the Senior Product and Sourcing Manager with new business tenders and customer set up documentation.

2.     Product Management 

  • Identifying opportunities to develop, strengthen and/or rationalise the product offer. 
  • Monitoring, reporting, and commentating on sales and margin performance monthly by reference to the agreed sales forecast. 
  • Day to day commercial management of the supplier base and Far East office.
  • Supporting the inventory control team with resolution of all supply chain issues. 
  • Working with colleagues in the inventory control and technical teams to put in place necessary action plans to ensure KPI’s are met. 
  • Working closely with the technical team in resolving product set up, quality issues and achieving acceptable commercial resolutions. 

3.     Supplier Management 

  • Project management of new product introductions and resourcing activities, defining the critical path, working closely with colleagues in the marketing, technical and inventory control teams to ensure key milestones and deliverables are met.
  • Maintenance of raw material, exchange rate and freight rate tracker and reporting their impact on profitability to the business. 
  • Validation of cost price movements by reference to changes in market indices, tracking these and reporting their impact on profitability to the business.
  • Preparation of landed cost templates as required to support commercial pricing decisions.
  • Maintenance of supplier master file to include supplier details, terms, annual spend (prior year and forecast) by region and product category and ensure this aligns with internal systems.

Qualification and Experience: 

  • Educated to degree level in a relevant business discipline (e.g. Logistics, Procurement, Supply Chain, Business Studies, Management, Finance) 
  • Prior experience in a commercial role preferred 
  • Full driving license 
  • Strong project management and problem-solving skills 
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and a thorough and accurate approach to work 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well in both a team environment and on own 
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and organisation skills
