What is BIM

BIM (Building Information Modelling) is a process for creating and managing information on a construction project across the project lifecycle. With a collaborative way of working between different disciplines from architecture, engineering through to construction (AEC) professionals and to project management, BIM creates effective management from initial design, through to construction and maintenance of a building.

BIM allows projects to be designed, costed, procured, built, project managed using 3D dynamic models to ensure they are delivered to budget and specification.  Using BIM as an approach to developing and delivering your projects it ensures that the correct bills of materials are generated, ordered and delivered to the right place at the right time.  This approach avoids clashes with design features and other services in buildings, problems that are usually resolved on site when all parties are gathered together - using BIM automatically reduces waste and improves efficiency.

BIM goes further by automatically creating project manuals and providing effective facilities management throughout the project lifecycle - ensuring there is a single asset information package

Since April 2016, the UK government has required construction suppliers tendering for centrally-procured government projects, including buildings and infrastructure, to be working at BIM Level 2.

Deta and BIM

Deta are collaborating with its customers to build its library of products.  The library currently contains Slimline, Slimline Décor and Gridswitch wiring accessories as well as smoke alarms, door chimes and lighting products that are generally specified in new build housing developments, which were created in Autodesk Revit.
